Re: Scrambler Rules
Are we allowed to connect the transport vehicle and the ramp with string so the vehicle stops when the string is pulled full length?

Re: Scrambler Rules
I was thinking about that over the summer. I dont remember reading anything in last year's rules that would forbid that but hey that was last year so it's irrelevant to this year and i dont remember exactly what every rule was. I'll check the rules on tuesday. I would think once the string reached full length it would pull the scrambler back to the launcher so it wouldnt be ideal but i'll check on tuesday unless someone else has the rules with them and wants to answer
EDIT/ i just found my rules from last year and 3.b says stuff about the breaking mechanism has to be completely inside the car and work automatically. I dont think your idea would be considered completely inside the car but remember, this is last years rules and it may be different this year. i dont see why they would remove this but check your 2009 rules and see if that rule is still in there. if it is then i doubt you will be allowed to do that.

Re: Scrambler Rules
I don't think so, but also that is not the best way to stop it. First of all if u just attach it with string the car will stop, and then roll back a few ft, maybe all the way back to the launcher even. try adding a strop to the axles, which is a little better.
edit* Pleiades beat me 2 it.

Re: Scrambler Rules
Also you said your going to attach it to the ramp, but this year you are not allowed to use ramps because on 4 h. it says "All the wheels of the egg transport must be on the floor at the start."

Re: Scrambler Rules
I'm new to science oylimpiad, I got scrambler, robo-cross, and road scholar. PM me on robo-cross and road scholar, but anything on scrambler can be answered here on the thread. Basicly I want any notibal rules for the events and any good designs that can be used for the scrambler. I happened to find a cool brake design at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJwFtkFSuJM I think everyone here should consider that in there design. This would be inside the device and is automatice. All you need to do is set the nut to the right spot.

Re: Scrambler Rules
yep, the wing-nut brake system is the most popular way of breaking the car. Although i heard the break pad system works better.

Re: Scrambler Rules
computernerd from what I can tell from the Youtube video that was up, they tok it down, of the nats winning run was that the car had two brakes, or one that just fired once then pressed harder, one that fired lightly so as to only slow it down like 1m from the wall and one that fired when the car was at the wall and stoped it mm from the wall, or touching.computernerd4826 wrote:can anybody explain what won at nats last year.
