Okay so I just looked over at the UT invite test and it seems like it was mostly freshwater (last year's topic). In addition, most marine/estuary tests include a good amount of freshwater information (lakes, river continuum concept, lake production, etc.) Is this concerning? Do you guys think most event supervisors will make the test mostly about freshwater (even though the rules state that it is estuaries/marine)? Please help.

I just had an event this weekend (even though it was a much smaller meet than UTA), and the test was a good mixture. It might've leaned slightly toward the marine side, but I didn't think it was bad.

https://store.soinc.org/us/CDs/c/2812/W ... CD/p/90639 is the link for the Water Quality CD. It has a lot of useful information, and is usually a good place to start.

Is there a big difference between the content in the Bio/Earth CD and the Water Quality CD? I know the Water Quality CD also has content for past topic rotations, but is there any difference in the handouts given for this year's topic, estuary and marine? Thanks in advance!

No, as I got the Water Quality CD this year and it seems to have all the information from last year's Bio/Earth CD. It might have a bit more information, but I'm pretty sure its around the same. It just contains both topics (Water Quality CD), while the current Bio/Earth CD has only marine/estaury. However, I suggest getting the Water Quality CD considering most tests also incorporate fresh material

Ok. I already have access to last year's Water Quality CD since my partner did the event last year. So it wouldn't be as useful to buy the Water Quality CD since I have the material for Freshwater already. (The Bio/Earth CD is useful for my other two events, Disease Detectives and Dynamic Planet, anyway so I'll just stick with that one. :D ) Thank you for explaining the difference!

I've seen the CDs on soinc, but what exactly are they? Is it like an actual CD? Is it only audio? What kind of stuff is on it?

(ahhhh sorry for all the questions I just didnt know that people used them lol)

The CDs have a bunch of handouts and other materials in them that are really useful when preparing for the even since most ESs end up asking questions from the handouts. I know Water Quality CD does not have any audio, but other events might (like I think the Ornithology CD might have some recordings since identifying bird calls is part of the event). Also, the usefulness of the CD can depend on the event it is for since some events have more or less material that can be learned through handouts than others. I hope that helps!
