My wish for this year: I'm just hoping it doesn't rain at States like last year. I don't want to run across the campus using a folder as an umbrella again. NOT fun.
At least it wasn't as bad as Moravian 2007. I'm pretty sure there was at least an eighth of an inch of water on the sidewalks.

Well, for me, States last year was bad, especially elevated bridge. First, my partner and I ran to the building where they were testing EB while trying to use our jackets to keep the bridge dry. Then, I realized that I, being the very intelligent person that I am, ( ) had forgotten the safety goggles back at our school's "home base". So I had to run back in the rain and grab the goggles before we could test. The worst part was admitting to my coach that we had almost got DQ'd because of my inability to remember simple things.

It wasn't a huge problem for me, but since I went with J.T. Lambert as a student coach, I was given the duty of filming the building events in action. Robo-Cross and Scrambler were scheduled at about the same time, and that happened at just the time the rain was pouring. I wasn't sure which was first, so I ran back and forth constantly to try to get updates and be able to film both. I would up being able to complete my mission, but not without getting soaked. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

The rain bothered me, but wasn't the worst problem for me last year. I had events at 9, 11, 12, and 1. I was planning to eat lunch around 10:30. When I went to the barbecue thing under the tent, they said that they would open at 11, except, if I wanted to buy a soda, I could get one with exact change only. I didn't have exact change, and I really wanted food. I was able to find a different cafe, get a snack, and run to my event at 11. At 1:50, the barbecue place under the tent was trying to close, and had very little left. This year, I really hope that they think more about the time schedule, offering lunch for longer hours. It really was not nice to be hungry during my events at states.

Really? I remember that my teammates and I were still able to get food from the barbecue at 2:30-ish. I wish that there would be 1 time slot set aside just for lunch because I couldn't eat lunch at a normal time (in addition to a walk-in at 9:30, I had events at 11, 12, and 1). But that's probably not going to happen.

My other wish is that they would turn off the sprinklers or at least have them actually water the grass, because on the way to the BAC, there was one sprinkler that decided to water the sidewalk and you had to time it just right or you got wet. (I managed not to get too wet.)

Weird, they had chips and soda, but they didn't have any burgers or hot dogs left when I went. I'm not glad that there's not much time for people with busy schedules to eat lunch, but I don't think setting aside a specific time slot for lunch would be a good idea either. Everyone will get home later, and for teams like ours who have to travel across the state, that would really not be good. My point was that, at states, they should have food available at more times. At regionals, I had a similar time issue, but I was able to bring my lunch and eat parts of it between events. I just didn't have time for that at states, and I couldn't bring a lunch.

yeah for our team
once i forget if it was at regionals or states the coaches bought cold cuts and we each had to pay 5 bucks or something
and they also bought in cookies and chips and water and fruit and stuff so when we had time, we ate or at least tried to take a bite of a sandwich between events or something

i remember last last year at states or regionals they gave us tickets to go down to the colege cafeteria to eat but the scheduling didnt work well for us b/c the tickets you got u could only use at a specific time or something

i've actaully had pretty good times for lunch becaus i know some people who have a free timeslot to eat lunch at 9 in the morning

[sarcasm]I know- everyone can get up earlier![/sarcasm] I would seriously complain if they did that, though. Getting up at 5 in the morning is early enough, thank you very much.

 Maybe if our school gave us a nice bus, like the sports teams, we might be able to actually sleep on the way there and not have to worry about building events breaking.

Just wondering, how early does everyone else have to get up for States?

for states we go to the hotel the day before hte competition
but on the day of the competition we get up around 5-5:30, shower brush teeth and stuff, eat breakfast around 6 try to leave at 6:30 which is near impossible because everyone is alseep and basically everything that can go wrong will but yeah, waking up early is a part of sci oly and you just have to get used to it
it is not fun waking up at 5 in the morning when it is -3 degrees outside and u forgot to turn the heat on really high in the room!!!
