Re: Remote Sensing C
If a test is multiple choice, though, it doesn't really matter if you know what you're doing, because you have a reasonable chance of guessing correctly on the answer(s) anyway.

Re: Remote Sensing C
Yeah, I kind of wish that they wouldn't do multiple choice at all for Science Olympiad. It makes it too easy to guess and have a legitimate chance of getting it right. Then a team that's just lucky might get a higher score than they deserve.binary010101 wrote:If a test is multiple choice, though, it doesn't really matter if you know what you're doing, because you have a reasonable chance of guessing correctly on the answer(s) anyway.

Didn't you guys get crushed at States, too? That's why I don't really like this event - from one test to another it can be like a completely different event. That makes it very difficult to prepare for.gneissisnice wrote:My partner and I honestly didnt really know what we were doing, and we got 3rd.XprMental-case wrote:Hey guys, I have decided to dedicate myself to the study of remote sensing. While I don't see myself as an expert (Top 20 Nationals) I think I can help anyone who is looking for it. Anyone else who thought last year's test was way too easy?
I'd say that that's a pretty big flaw in the test if we can guess our way to 3rd place.
My partner answered all the satellite questions (which was most of the test), and he ended up guessing on a bunch, and I answered the couple of environmental questions and I did the tie-breaker.

Re: Remote Sensing C
I think the varying difficulty of tests last year had a lot to do with the vagueness of the topic. The satellite and imaging stuff was pretty clear, but "human impact on earth" could go in a million different directions. I don't think it'll be as big of a deal for this year, since that part of the topic has been narrowed to just human interaction with forest biomes.Flavorflav wrote:Didn't you guys get crushed at States, too? You're right, my mistake - I was thinking of E. Chem. They did very well in Remote. Never mind, then.sciolykid101 wrote:6th isn't too bad.

Re: Remote Sensing C
I did this event at the Athens Invitationals yesterday, and that test was... interesting (
'best' word i could think of). When the proctor said it was a very hard test, he was making an understatement! Remote is such a vague event though, there's a lot on which they can ask

Re: Remote Sensing C
The test was interesting, and quite long. However, it wasn't a bad test due to the fact that it covered forest biomes stuff and satellites, along with some mathematics. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Yes... although I think there could have been more on forest biomes, and human impact on themmanutd94 wrote:The test was interesting, and quite long. However, it wasn't a bad test due to the fact that it covered forest biomes stuff and satellites, along with some mathematics.

Re: Remote Sensing C
Yes, I'd also agree that the biome stuff didn't have much to do with the human impact, except the last two questions about the effects of deforestation. It was basically a few different tests from different states combined because I did see NCSO (North Carolina) written on the top of one of the pages.pjgscioisamazing wrote:Yes... although I think there could have been more on forest biomes, and human impact on themmanutd94 wrote:The test was interesting, and quite long.
