Physics is the most common by far, just because it’s so easy to set up. I’ve rarely seen chem, and usually only at high-level comps with a lot of resources.

In all five of the competitions I've had this event for, if I recall correctly, they were all physics related.

Most likely, they're physics related, and by extension engineering. I've seen chemistry once, at my regionals competition 3 years ago, but that was the only chemistry I saw. 99% of the time, it's physics, because physics is easiest to demonstrate. Because it's mostly physics, you can basically write down one of Newton's laws of motion for most rationales and it'd make sense

That makes sense, but in one scrimmage I did, we had to do chromatography. I just wanted to get external feedback.

Yeah, the topic we had was chromatography too.

I only did experimental design twice, but the topics I did were diffusion and also something involving a ramp and motion.

The topics I had when I did it were elasticity and no topic, but we turned it into something physics related (pendulums.)

Physics can be challenging too. If I remember correctly, the topic at MIT in 2017 was about a relatively obscure optical phenomenon.

I've had one where I had to build a roller coaster out of a piece of gutter and wooden spools.
