those two IF launched at the same angle will have A being very very slightly (mostly less than a cm) difference. The real key is the launch angle.

My new roller coaster has a top score of about 405

How did you manage to get that high score, I am assuming you have several gaps more than 10 cm each, how did you manage the consistency and what ball did you use ?

I'm nicks partner and we had 4 gaps of around 21, 14, 11, and 19 with a height of 77cm and time of about 30s. It does require a bit of luck but we made it so that the ball always gets caught somewhere and keeps on going even if the jumps don't all work

That is awesome that you were able to consistently land the ball , were your gaps across the diagonal of the coaster or on the four walls ? The reason I ask is do the track length play a role in how far the ball jumps ?[/quote

Yes indeed the track length does effect how far the ball gets. We tried to maximize the distance the wall travels before it jumps.

So, If I'm reading you right, ramps of the same height can get different gap distances due to ramp length? This is an image of what I think you are saying.

So track B will get a better gap than track A? I thought the longer you dragged it, the lesser the slope, the less force applied to the ball when it is launching. Can you confirm that track B is going to be better?
Ideally, yes it would, but I would recommend testing it both ways to see which one works better. my ramps are like track B. The thing is, if you put it too steep it will kind of crash at the elbow making it lose a lot of energy when it hits the elbow. It addition, the steeper one will take up more height, making less jumps possible.

P.S. idk how to quote ppl so yah

What do you think will be the top scores at nats. My guess is that someone might hit 600

At States, I got 248 points, 31 cm of gaps, 77cm height, 35 seconds out of 38 seconds.

Do you know what the first place score was?

I don't know, but it was one of the paper roller coaster kits, which makes me mad that I got beaten by a commercially available kit...

For Wright Stuff, nearly all planes are constructed form kits. Competitors have to find ways to improve the kit's design to win. Just because someone uses a kit, does not necessarily mean it was easier for them.

Wright Stuff is different though. In Wright Stuff kits are the norm where homemade planes are rare. I was simply stating that I was mad that I let myself get beaten by a kit anyone can buy online.

So you're mad because someone used a technique that was out of the "norm"?

In Ohio, at least, the most teams are not using the Wright Stuff kit. Certainly the best Wright Stuff teams are building their own. It was a different story with gliders a few years ago. I also have not seen a commercial Roller Coaster kit in any of the invitationals we have been to in Ohio.
