oh wait your right. you could decrease the temp of the vinegar(I guess)
But dissolution could arguably be chemical reaction. Goes from solid to aqueous or if it's an ionic compound then the dissolution involves the splitting of the compound. And then changing temp would change the rate of dissolution.
I guess you can make that argument
I guess you could, but that's very iffy. I'd probably go with something safer, because I don't know how the ES will react
EDIT: No pun intended. (maybe it's just me who's seeing this. This is what Chem AP does to a person.)

Do you guys think HCl would be considered a "Hazardous chemical" as stated in 2.d?

Here is one perspective on chemicals and concentration:

But as noted in the other thread where you were asking about this, hydrogen gas isn't going to pass safety either (if that's the direction you were going).

Would burning a match in a lab beaker with the ballon covering the opening result in the balloon inflating? I ask because if I use extra long matches, I can use the idea as my chemical timer.

It would probably result in the balloon melting...

Do party blowers count as balloons? I know that homemade items may be counted as balloons, but what about other inflatable, commercially bought items?

Definition of Balloon from Merriam-Webster:
a: a nonporous bag of light material that can be inflated especially with air or gas
b : an inflatable bag (as of rubber or plastic) usually used as a toy or for decoration
Based on the definitions it would work but you may want to submit an FAQ asking them to define a balloon.

How long is it generally taking for you guys to inflate the balloon?

I have judge lots of balloon tasks this year, and what has been fun about this step is the times vary wildly. It depends on the reaction you use, pressure generated, what you are using for a balloon... All sorts of stuff. I have had balloons that took 2 min, and saw one that took sub 10 s. So they are all over the place in terms of times.

What qualifies as completing this task? Does the balloon need to change in one dimension by 20cm, or could a 20cm long balloon just be filled with gas?
