Haha at regionals ours got totally jacked up and we only got 400 out of 800 points/:
thats still over 1,000 more than we got

Just remember that anything after 60 seconds isn't counted, and you would only get 2 more points. Also remember about the human error: someone could easily start the stopwatch half a second early, or stop it, or think that the mousetrap went off afterwards. If I was you, I would leave it at 59 seconds. That is REALLY good, and I think that the risk of going to 60 seconds is greater than the reward.
Just my opinoin.

Has anyone tried to push their time at a competition into the 60.0 to 60.99 range? Yesterday my team did 59.97 at regionals and I was wondering if I should encourage them to go higher at states or do the event judges just say it went past 60 you're done regardless of the rules? It isn't the points as much as it's for the tie breaker.

I highly doubt that anyone is going to get higher than a 59.97, not including the human error. I don't know what your competition is like, but I think that you'll win with a time like that. Its amazing! Nice job, and if I were you, I would accept how good I did and not push my luck.

Before a tiebreaker comes into play, you have to be tied! It's better to lose a tie and be in second place than to overextend your capabilities and wind up in 4th or 5th (or even 3rd).

my understanding of the whole time thing was that 60.00 seconds was the best u could do, and as soon as it breaks 60.00 (such as 60.01 sec) the the device is over and u dont get any more points. So 59.97 is one of the best devices u can have.

Based off the last few pages it seems like perfect scores are not going to be that unusual.
