To whoever fixed up scioly.org and got it running again, thank you! States is coming up and I'm so happy I can use the archives again. I also noticed the verification thing =)

Those always scare me away, but if scioly.org puts it into use, I'm fine with it and definitely see its utiliy :)

Probably just paranoia because lots of time it is attached to no good for some reason

Really? Do you have any examples? I've never seen anything bad with those but maybe I should be more careful.

No, not particularly, I feel like sometimes it's just a bit unexpected and looks out-of-place. Also I feel like it comes with a lot of those strange redirect websites but maybe I'm just imagining it. It's just random unwarranted paranoia.

It's a Cloudflare service so you'll see it on a lot of sites as they're one of the largest providers in this sort of infrastructure space, it generally doesn't indicate much.

To give a bit more insight, Cloudflare is generally a hosting, CDN (content delivery network) SaaS (service as a service), but they are most prominently known for their DDoS mitigation and cybersecurity features.

In the case for scioly.org, we noticed an abnormally continuous load of requests that were slowing down the server's response times for all incoming requests. Most of these requests, after further analysis, appeared to be from web spiders and scraper bots.

We are still doing some tinkering, but currently, we have it set to send an "I am a human" challenge to each visitor. We may tweak this further, but we just wanted to see if it reduced load and improved request response times (the fact that you loaded this page in not 30 seconds or without it timing out shows that it is working).

We also expect it to lower the number of new bot account registrations on the site, however there is no gaurentee it will remove all. I also suspect that there are some features that might have broken due to the migration, but I may need some confirmation if the issue existed prior.

To always be sure you are connecting to the right site, always double check (or retype) the domain (scioly.org) and make sure to always use HTTPS (https://) *before* hitting enter. This is the #1 method to prevent phishing without compromising on the provided service. It's also the reason why the domain and schema are typically more white in the URL on chrome or firefox (to bring more attention to it), and hovering over links provides the URL link in the bottom left corner.
