Umm, states on a Tuesday? Ok.

Try wrapping some tape really tightly around the rods where you need them to be clamped. It's not a very good solution, but at this point that's what'll have to do. Right now I'd be worried about getting something together and getting it tested and ready for states first. Even if that means switching to a wood frame or whatever's at your local hardware store.

sigh, that would be quite a large amount of tape. What if i just fashioned a piece out of wood?

I actually already had a vehicle all set and all; just trying to improve it (and failing at it, as you can see)

I mean, with such a big contest in a few days, I wouldn't really try to improve it by rebuilding it if I were you. Probably best to just practice running it and seeing what you can do to improve your accuracy and consistency...

I have two weeks before my state tournament, and at regionals, the proctor said my starting mechanism on my launcher was risky. Does anyone know how to build a starting mechanism for a pulley system?

Does anyone have a good link for pillow bearings?

McMaster-Carr is awesome for things like that. http://www.mcmaster.com/

Quick question. If I drilled a 1/4'' hole in my backdrop to insert my dowels, does that violate the rules in anyway?

It wouldn't strike me as it, just make sure your dowels stick out the correct amount.

Is there anything in the rules prohibiting us from taping and securing the launcher onto the floor?

I don't think so. If you launcher is sliding around after being aimed (say when you activate your release for example), thereby hurting your accuracy, we found some very thin, very high friction stick-on feet at WalMart in the hardware department. They grip so well that aiming the launcher is actually pretty difficult now.
