Have they announced Nats height already? I have not seen such yet. Last two years it was rather low. A high ceiling changes strategy considerably!

Thanks

Not the nats height, just the facility which is an indoor track, which seems very high.

The facility has not been announced but it seems likely to be held there.

I’m only able to test in a ~20 foot ceiling. How do you change the rubber/winds to maximize time in higher ceilings at competition? Thanks!

You can replace rubber with say 1/4 of intended rubber length, plus 3/4 length (and mass) with a fixed stick, and this should give about 1/4 of the final height and time. Do searches in forum for partial motor testing or half motor testing.

That works reasonably reliably for WS, but not for ELG. I don't know what to do with that class!

What do you mean by "fixed" stick? Also, does this mean we have to create a completely separate plane with dimensions of the plane (such as wings) scaled down to 3/4 too?

Use your current plane. If for example, you were to use 2 g of rubber in competition, and have a ceiling height of 40 feet. Assume [plane has 12" hook-to-hook. You instead use 1/2g of rubber (1/4 the goal amount), and then make a stick 9" long (3/4 of the hook-to-hook). The stick weighs 1.5g (3/4 of the goal rubber). The stick hooks to the tail hook and to the rear of the rubber, and does not rotate.

Then the plane should rise 10 feet, and the time aloft will be 1/4 of the time aloft with the full 2g of rubber and no stick.

I use this method, and it works rather well.

For those of you who ordered a Freedom Flight model kit, how long did it take for it to come? I have a roughly 4 weeks until regionals...
The biologist speculates, "What's the meaning of life?"
The physicist asks, "In the universe, does matter really matter?"
The chemist replies, "I shall find solutions to both questions."
