I'm using a 6 mm cf square tube. I can honestly probably get away with an even smaller cf rod tbh, because the 6mm is a bit heavier than I like.

1/4 inch basswood would probably also do just fine, come to think of it.

I'm using a tiny diameter brass tube, and it's got a permanent flex... I don't really mind since I can just turn it over and get some negligible extra pulling distance.

Quick question, has anyone found anywhere that sells metal rods in metric measurements? I'm trying to get a 6mm diameter aluminum rod to use with the BaneBots wheel hub, but all I can find are 1/4" rods.

Check out ServoCity The rods are steel, but they do sell 6mm ones and all the other associated hardware.

Thanks! I ended up finding 6mm brass rods from amazon instead.

For M6 (0.236") threaded rods, will a 1/4" wing nut work or do a need an exact fit? I was thinking that since the rod is a little thinner in diameter, it would allow the wing nut to spin with less friction.

Well, the pitch needs to match perfectly, and even if the pitch matched, a size mismatch would mean more play, and therefore less accuracy.
