Re: Fossils B/C
Correct. I was looking for Neanderthal 1 as this specimen. Oh also, the discoverer or rather the one who recognized the significance of Neanderthal 1 was Johann Carl Fuhlrott. Schemerling discovered the first remains of the Homo neanderthalensis species but Fuhlrott is associated with Neanderthal 1. Your turn

Re: Fossils B/C
I think I have some of the important stuff online but I was too lazy to look it up
1. Phylum 2. Class 3. Order 4. Genus 5. What is the difference between a hinge line and the commisure? 6. Time Period 7. Environment 8. Mode of life 9. Complete this (prob awful) analogy... The ventral valve to the dorsal valve is the ______ to the _______. 10. What secretes the valve? 11. What are the other two phylums that share this phylum's feeding structure? 12. What is the primary compound in valve composition?

5. A hinge line is the entire edge, the commisure is just the part with the hinge tooth 9. Also no idea 10. The mantle 11. Mollusca

9.Since dorsal means back (as in dorsal fin) and ventral means front, or underbelly, would the analogy be the front/back?

A wild goose flies over a pond, leaving behind a voice in the wind.
A man passes through this world, leaving behind a name.

Re: Fossils B/C
Ok so whoever wants to go can go but the answers are
1. Brachiopoda
2. Articulata
3. Orthida
4. Platystrophia
5. The commisure is where the 2 valves meet all around the organism except for where the hinge line is. The hinge line is where the pedicle is and where the two valves are held together by the hinge. For example on this image for the platystrophia, the hinge line is the really straight part while the commisure if from where the hinge line ends. Not really a great explanation but look up an image.
6. Ordo-Sil
7. Marine sediment
8. Benthic filter feeder
9. Pedicle valve to the Brachial Valve
10. Mantle
11. Bryozoa, Phoronida, but Entoprocta is a 4th one
12. Calcite
1. Brachiopoda
2. Articulata
3. Orthida
4. Platystrophia
