So the regional proctor I had basically told me he didn't have to follow the new rule clarification about the weight hitting the ground. Since it wasn't in the rule manual.

What exactly is the general consensus as far as weight is concerned (of the egg transport)? From what I gather, approx. 100 grams is the ultimate goal, whereas 400 g is not too bad.

So then, what exactly is considered heavy? Maybe someone could clarify for me? I also did boomilever, where a difference of one gram makes a significant impact on the score. So what increment of weight are we taking about here that would a substantial difference?

The increase in weight only slows down your time score. If you've got something like a pulley or push rod launcher then it probably doesn't make much difference unless you're talking about a few hundred grams. In spring launchers the vehicle makes up almost all of the accelerated mass, so the small changes in vehicle mass make a larger difference. However a few grams wont really make a big difference. I think anything over 700g would be considered very heavy?

Our car turned out to be a monster by comparison then. It weighed over 1kg yet our time was still only 3 seconds.

It's all in the launcher I guess. But then, what launcher did you use? I didn't think it'd be possible to get < 3 seconds with a pulley if you're using a 2 kg weight to propel a 1 kg car.

Yep, we used a pulley launcher. We don't even have really great pulleys. Its really got some momentum. If the distances were 18.7-21.7 meters, we'd have no problem reaching it.

Same exact thing happened to me today! I sent in a report after the event was over and he told me that the clarification wasn't in the manual, and therefore not valid. Several teams should have been tiered, but it was the first time the Event Supervisors had run Scrambler, so they let a LOT of things fly. I was very frustrated - I knew I should have placed higher.

Here's the way to respond to this situation in the future:
1. pull out your copy of the rules (you should always bring a copy to the tournament)
2. Point to the bold text at the top of EVERY PAGE that says "Read the general rules as they apply to every event"
3. Flip to the back inside cover or a copy of the general rules
4. Point to general rule #11 that says "All SO policies (e.g. clarificiations, FAQs, etc) provided on the website apply to all teams and must be treated as if they were included in the printed rules"

You just stated my exact response to the proctor. And he replied "I don't care what is on the internet", but I dint know about the general rules part.

We had a similar experience at our Regional event. Two weeks prior to the event, due to the recent rules clarifications, we completely rebuilt our launcher so that nothing but the wheels of the Scrambler and the launcher itself contacted the floor. Prior to this our pulley string frequently touched the floor. But at the competition there were even weights (the only thing explicitly mentioned in the most recent clarification) that contacted the floor.
