Well just by looking at it, and by how much I distrust you I doubt there is.
Still, I'm all ears if there is another solution. The clue is not going to be touched again so you lose nothing by telling us, and you gain pride by disproving my hunch.

So go on, tell me, how could that clue also be solved?

Approaching this as an outsider, you guys are not being terribly hospitable to this Assassinator, so it is not surprising that they are not being nice to you either. Don't take the game so seriously.
I see where you're coming from, but you're getting cause and effect mixed up. The assassinator has been very obnoxious from the start, and that is what has caused the backlash from people like myself.
A new era has begun

It COULD be mores code but the problem is then in the fact that we don't know where one letter ends and the next begins.

I also just tried breaking it up into lines of 5 and doing some sort of binary code but that won't work either

I don't see any other way. However, I'm sure that the officers could come up with something: we've seen that happen before.
Pray tell, when should you ever trust the Assassinator?

And they could come up with something that leads to the wrong person as well.

My point is valid. This clue is probably ridiculous.

Hard clue. This merits 48 hours.
Grandparent's? meaning one? or just bad grammar on the assassinator's part. could be something weird.

anyway, tried something out on a whim, and counted out the sequence of periods and commas. Then made commas equal consonants, and periods equal vowels. So 2 periods equals E etc. Then, after getting the letters, I put it into a keyed shift cipher, the key being cousin, then my output was "cscokococokhkscucodococo"...the only thing i got from this was "coco", indicating kokonilly?

Maybe this is just me being paranoid, and a newcomer. So make of it what you will. Odds are this is wrong.

From what I remember, all Morse Code letters consist of three dots and/or dashes which means that the clue could only be Morse Code if the first two punctuation marks define what is a dot and what is a dash. In which case a period is a dot and and a comma is a dash. In addition, the translation would have no spacing.

Edit: I was wrong about all Morse Code letters containing three dots and/or dashes.

Edit 2: The assassin said to use phonics which is another word for acoustics. Morse Code can be spoken aloud with dots being pronounced as dits and dashes being pronounced as dahs. The message in Morse Code spoken aloud where period=dit and comma=dah is: dit-dah-dah-dah--dit-dah-dit-dit-dit-dit-dah-dit-dah-dit-dah-dit-dit-dit-dit-dit-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dit-dit-dit-dit-dah-dah-dah-dit-dah-dah-dit-dah-dit-dit-dit-dah-dit-dah-dit-dah
The dahs and dits create a distinct tune that could be the tune of the target's favorite song.

Right, that's what I was thinking at first, but then I noticed that if you made the ,=. and the .=- then the last five characters make the [end signal] so I played around with it a little longer, finally coming to the solution I posted above.

I'm going to go out on a limb, since I feel like having 2 accusations at once is probably a bad idea, in case I die.

So:

I accuse quizbowl, because in retrospect, his solving of the clue targeting gneissisnice was hugely improbable without prior knowledge to the solution, especially considering that he did nearly all the work himself (it was even he that pointed out that it was a bend knot not a sheet knot). In addition, he was considered an early suspect be z after the identity clue
