Is there a Can't Judge thread yet? I didn't see one.
Is it just me, or would it possibly be better to just identify the powders mentally as fast as possible (especially if you already have the background in ID from SCB), and then write down all the appropriate properties? Wouldn't that be faster than actually doing all the observations?
Oh well, I'm going to be in C next year, with Forensics instead.

There is no list of powders that they have to choose from, so they can give you anything. Also, it is probably much easier to just learn how to do the tests, rather than learn all of the properties for tons of different powders

Ah, okay, that's the part I was missing. Still, if you happen to realize it's, say, corn starch (since that's my favorite powder of all time- non-Newtonian fluid ftw), you could save yourself a lot of time by simply listing the properties of corn starch instead of testing them all.

They have to give you water, HCl, and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), and they can also give you other liquids if they want to.

So there will be no testing involved with the event not really like sceince crimebusters
The last time this event was around, it consisted of 2 parts. In part 1 you were given materials/equipment you could use to perform tests on a given powder. You were also given a specific color/type of writing utensil make a numbered list of your observations. There was no need to identify the powder and, in fact, it could be impossible due to the large number of possibilities and the limited tests you could perform. The writing utensil was taken away before beginning part 2.
For part 2, you were given a different color/type of writing utensil and series of questions to answer about your observations. The answer was always a number corresponding to one of your observations. You could get partial credit for adding items (with the different color/type writing instrument) to your list to answer the questions.
As always, the event could have a new twist!
P.S. If I remember correctly, rulebooks came out mid August last year.
