The stars represent how many posts you have made.
oh cool! thank you.
The only posts that count are those that are "useful," which are posts in competition forums and event forums. So, we always welcome when you ask good questions or help somebody out, and your post count will reflect that! In contrast, posting here on YDRC, for example, won't contribute towards a higher post count or towards your user rank.

And while these may not be the best days for SciOly, we hope you're enjoying your first two months on the forums!
thank you so much! hopefully the best days for SciOly will come :)))

Being exalted is like me and CPScienceDude. We get medals next to our username and are recognized for contributions to scioly.org. It's essentially like getting all the clout.

Anyone can get exalted or promoted to a staff position (at least that I'm aware of), but you'll only be promoted at the current staff's discretion. There is no application for moderating.

Yeah, being exalted basically shows that you made some valuable contributions to the site - it's just like getting a medal - you did something really cool. It also gives you some perks, like a bolded black username on the forums, the medal icon, and sure, some clout lol.

I don't know what you mean by becoming a mod "automatically" but mostly everyone on here worked their way towards becoming a mod. What qualifies a mod is a complex topic, but if you're asking about how to become a mod, my advice to people who want to be mods has always been along the lines of:
  • Be a "mod" now - Although non-mods can't do special things like deleting, editing, banning, etc, they can still help enforce the rules. If you can do that now, you can probably make a pretty good mod
  • Be different - Try to make something new on the site to show how you're different and what you'd contribute to the mod team. The wiki is a very great place to do this, because it is extremely versatile as to what can go on there. I'd say some mods have done this by editing a lotttttt (you'll notice that the top 7 wiki editors are all staff of some sort) or by starting a project, such as working a lot on one specific page (such as Hugo with DP) or by helping out with a new feature, like Navboxes
  • Be active and reliable - If you can demonstrate that you're going to be consistently helpful on the site, that's a great attribute.
  • Be patient - This is important. No one on here became a mod super, super quickly. I, myself, almostttt lost most of my desire to become exalted/on the staff team around October-November 2019 (I got on the team in December 2019), as I wondered if doing the wiki projects I was working on were ever going to lead somewhere (as a lot of the people at my school were telling me to give up), and it was clear I was growing way too impatient. Bad mistake.
There is no application to be a mod - mods get appointed in flexible waves conducted by staff. If you want to be a mod, then informally let a mod know. There are basically no requirements. Same for exaltation.

There are staff and exalted members who are in high school, college, and past college - so no

Those are just my thoughts, and are definitely not official. Hopefully they can be helpful to someone
