I'm pretty sure it works. There's no visible damage, loose wires, or the like, and the warranty sticker is still over the screw holes. I would test it in my 98, but the serial port went out on it. I do know, however, that my boring white one works. The computer doesn't recognize that one, either.

I've been so rickrolled so many times in the past hour just reading through all of my scioly.org notifications...

Not too much of a computer nerd myself, but doing some quick searches on the net yields:
http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.p ... and-driver
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-speci ... 1183604282
Though it is not made clear, based on the Ebay layout and references to drivers on the forums, a driver may indeed be needed for this mouse.

However, this may not be the case as there are many additional softwares that could optionally be added to the mouse.
In the end though, the mouse is "programmable" so if installing a new driver (C7 mouse driver) doesn't fix things, you might just be stuck.

having a classmate who randomly moans in the middle of the week? Manpower is tough enough as-is on a week-end.

No offense fam, but just update your software, and get a new mouse, in total it'll cost like 10$, and better for you in the end. To be fair, they even stopped servicing Windows 7 earlier this year.
