What have you guys use at Comps this year.
I am going to try to get a bunch of random stuff for me and my partner cause you know Colorado has to be different and not use building sets

well they're pretty much everyday types of materials (marbles, cork, dull toothpicks, washers and that kind of stuff......for us I mean

i didn't do it but apparently my regional the thing they showed the writer had more parts than the kits...

How would that work? I've seen it where there were extra parts in the kits- that is, the builder had some pieces that weren't on the model- but never the other way around.

that happened to us once. it sort of makes sense because if youre a good writer, extra parts wont matter (eak brought this up a little while ago)

Yeah, with a good writer, extra pieces in the kit shouldn't matter- but not enough pieces (i.e., pieces on the model that aren't in the kit) would pretty much kill you, since the Doer couldn't possibly replicate the structure even if they followed the directions exactly.

I recently tested off with the doer for my team because my coach wanted to give me a 6th event for state. I beat him 5 times in a row. The kid only ever got half way through the directions, and I finish with several minutes left. This kid has been the team's doer for the whole year and State last year. I can't believe our coach didn't try to find a replacement before.

Anyway, I was wondering if, since time is the tie-breaker, if it is wise to take time double-checking your work or leave right when you're done.

it depends on how much time you take to complete the task.....
