Re: Fossils
Okay I'm sorry but I have to say something because everytime someone says "Harrinton", "Harisson", or "Harrington", it is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. It is Harriton, and yes the person who gave out medals at Athens pronounce our name only ONCE! It is pronounce Hair+itin (itin as in chitin or titin). I am sorry but I just get annoyed because at every competition, and on the forums, people tend to mispronounce it, or spell it wrong, and it gets on my nerves.

Re: Fossils
I'm sorry for spelling ur school's name wrong !!!!!!!! Even as I was writing it I was like, is this right? Our school was hardly called up so.....
Now to talk about the actual event, there was more rock stuff then I expected and I wasn't very prepared for it so thats something I definetly have 2 work on. I thought a lot of topics got left out, but I guess it would have been nearly impossible 2 include them all. Now i have to prepare for regionals! Hope i do better!

Re: Fossils
Don't worry about it, I am not, nor was I mad, I just get annoyed and I wanted to set the record straight, because it annoys me that during the awards ceremony they always pronounce Harriton wrong.
Also yeah, the person who made that test probably did fossils when it was an event three years ago. They really shouldn't have asked those rocks questions, but it was in the previous rules, and it would still be good to learn and include in your binder just to be safe.

To crazy77:
If I were you I'd go to the library and check out/ buy Simon and Schuster's Guide to Fossils and the Firefly Guide to Fossils. They're really good!!!

And no, I'm not a guy...even though my sig says will robsinson. It's a reference to Lost in Space, an ancient sci fi TV show. And the robot is the character who always says the line.

Re: Fossils
Sorry, I don't know what you mean. I didn't take the test, the freshmen who do fossils did (at Athens). I looked over the test when they got it back, but I don't remember enough to be able to help you there.crazy77 wrote:yea, i learned that the hard way i did have some rock stuff in my binder, just not enough and I don't know enough for example, u remember that station with all the different rock layers labeled 1, 2, 3, etc. ? i had no idea how to interpret ne of that i think it was like station 14 or 15 do u know of ne good resources to learn about that kinda stuff, rocks and such?

Re: Fossils
I assume it was a station about interpreting a stratigraphic sequence. There is often one of those of the test, since the event writers are mostly Earth Science teachers and since stratigraphy is so important in geological history. Fortunately, they are pretty simple if you remember a few basic principles: the Laws of Superposition, Inclusion, Cross-cutting etc. http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/fossils/ is a pretty good intro.

Re: Fossils
I can't find ANYTHING on original horizontality and unconformities.
Can somebody tell me what they are?
