Golden Eagle, juvenile (the adults don't have the white patches on the wings or the distinct white band on the tail).

ID the bird from its call, and answer the following:

How does it protect its nests?
It can be found year-round in at least part of the contiguous US. True or False?
Is it sexually dimorphic? If so, which is larger, male or female?

Killdeer
It protects its nests by the "broken-wing act". Also, they may charge at large-hoofed animals to attempt to make it change directions.
True.
It is, the male is larger than the female...?

Actually, I believe that the female is larger (slightly) than the male. But you are correct on the rest.

I think someone else should take the next one; it doesn't look like iluvthecolororange is going to go and I want to keep this moving.

EDIT: wait until 10:00 which is when Alpha replied.

and this is an interesting site on killdeers. http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.actio ... 4978213373
No matter what the experiment's result, there will always be someone eager to:(a) misinterpret it(b) fake it, or (c) believe it supports his own pet theory.

Eh, they live year-round in basically any part of the US further south than the Mason-Dixon Line (plus WA, OR, and parts of ID). The range varies slightly from guide to guide (ex. the Sibley I have says they live a little further north than what the Nat Geo says).
