Probably graphite. But what's even better, get some teflon washers and put one between the bearing and the rotor.

I use two tiny, tiny craft beads and some oil. maybe I should switch to graphite...

well, you should definitely not let the rotor touch the hanger. I put a glass bead there, like the red ones on the ikara prop.

One bead is fine. I'm trying to reduce friction as much as possible, so I unnecessarily use two.

Actually, wouldn't using two beads actually increase the friction? Since with one bead there are only two points of contact, but with two beads there are three.

possibly, im not really sure about that, but it makes the rotations smoother

For those of you who are managing to use 1/8th rubber, how many times are you winding it? and are you using it single or double looped.
My helicopter flys well on 3/16th rubber, but there is too much torque, and it actually flew up so fast today that the speed at which it hit the cieling broke the spinner off the top. the rotors i originally made are 1 and 5/8ths inches verticle spacing and four inches tip to tip.
Figuiring i needed lower pitched, smaller rotors, i made new ones that are 1.25 verticle spacing and 3.5 inches tip to tip. these flew better than the first, but still only about twenty seconds.
I would like to be able to fly on 1/8th rubber. should i use an even lower pitch? I am winding about two thousand times on the one eighth. Tips would be greatly appriciated.
