Our regionals were today here in central illinois (Urbana Champaign, yes thats where nationals are...not that my school'll make it)

The fossils test was...the easiest thing ive ever done in sci oly PERIOD. I won 1st among 7 teams but see, im not bragging, wait for it.

As u read this, keep in mind, i made a decent binder and i actually did study and work hard for this...my goal this year is to win first at state, which is unlikely, but o well :D

1. There was no fossil identification on the test.
2. There were no questions about Paleontology related events.
3. None of the questions mentioned the geologic time scale or for that matter GEOLOGIC TIME AT ALL.
4. This was a 1 page front and back test with 15 questions, all very easy short questions. When i spent 5 minutes on it and didnt use my binder once, i was kind of annoyed. The 1st place was nice...my team also got 1st place overall :)

I just wanna know wat u guys think about this. I found it quite annoying because u study so much and then they give u common sense questions...

And plz dont think our region is really easy or a hick town...all the other tests were challenging and we actual had some stiff competition.

You're right. That was a ripoff. I think the point of SciOly is to CHALLENGE us, and that doesn't sound like challenge at all. Not every (most) tests I've taken have had stuff about Paleontology, but Geologic Time and fossil ID is a must-have. Last year, my state didn't have any Fossil ID either, and I was mad. Congratulations on the medal though. And if you're by Champaign, you can go to Nats, even if you don't compete. Just go to watch. :)

Yeah, it's actually mandated in the rules that ID MUST be 50% of the test. So your supervisor did something very very wrong.
But congrats on the 1st place anyway.

That sounded like my ornithology test where there were only ten questions.

Lol, im so glad i live in Illinois...i think if i study and little more and brush up my binder and get my partner involved, i could place well at state...we only have 42 division C teams at state this year in illinois, NOT TO MENTION, i think they split up bigger schools and smaller schools into 2 divisions...thats wat they did last year.

That's what they always do. And if I remember correctly, last year's Div B state test had no id, was only 3 pages, and insanely easy. I didn't win a medal though, but I was a close 5th. Stupid evolution.

I'm at Crystal Lake South (not Central- most people get us confused, because South didn't have a team until a few years ago). That would be cool! I'm on JV right now (default freshman thing), but I've kicked Varsity's butt in every event I've had at Invites, so I'm going to move up soon. I hope we go to state. Also, I noticed this is the second time today I've been referred to as a guy. Hmm.

I'm Jeannie. And it's okay. A lot of people on here think I'm a guy for some reason. You'd think the heart in my avvie would give it away. Oh wait, I had to cut down the size to be 75 pixels, and the heart got cut out. Anyway, though, it's allright. I guess most people don't think a girl would do Fossils.
