You guys made it very far. You got the Frindle connection. When I said "the original example" I was referring to what I thought at the time of posting this clue as an example of a word being forced into the language- the word "quiz". Apparently, it's actually a well-known urban legend.

Dear officers (present and future),
Please take the time to protect. An incorrect protection is better than no protection. There is always the chance that you would get it right. There is not a "penalty" for incorrect protections like there is for accusations. And we all know a BS protection is better than a kill. There is not a reason to not protect, so please do so. "I don't know who to protect," is not an excuse. It is just showing that you are a lazy bum who doesn't care and doesn't want to try and figure it out or make a protection at all for that matter. If you know you will not be avalible on the day the clue expires, you can always protect early so that you get your protection in. If this continues to happen, I will get very angry. PLEASE DO YOUR JOB AND PROTECT!!! DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES!!!
