This is a Dunlin. Juvenile, I think. Females have longer bills than males. Wingspan is 17'' according to my guide, so that would be... 40 something cm? And true.

Yay! I had 32-38 cm, but close enough.

Scarlet Tanager
another species is the Vermilion Flycatcher, and the difference between the two is that the Vermilion Flycatcher has a black or dark streak across the eye area

Painted bunting, female. They are near threatened, and the population has been in a steady decline, I think because of trappers.
