I'm pretty sure that you do...or at least, it depends on the supervisor. If you are unsure, it's better to be on the safe side.

always abbreviate everything. you never know. Remember that supervisors grade very quickly so that they can have the results for the closing ceremony. If they see an abbreviation without a definition, they could mark it and penalize you

googlyfrog wrote:Oh yeah, I'm never sure about those. I write, and I got really paranoid so I started explaining abbreviations like cm for centimeter, because the last thing i wanted was to get disqualified. Do we have to define that, do you know?

Oh wow, I assumed we didn't have to since it was a common abbreviation. What about " for inches and ' for feet. Would we have to explain those?

I'm not sure whether that would be counted as an abbreviation or a symbol. I think you should play it safe and just define them as "in" and "ft."

Well, it's on a regular keyboard, so I think it would count. I think I'd probably have to define them first though. What strategies do people have about decreasing time for the writer, besides more practice and abbreviations?

When I'm under pressure, I write faster, so the anxiety actually helps.

Well, that's lucky for you. When I'm under pressure, I freak out in my mind, and pretty much barf all over the paper (not seriously, though...)
