I think the judges would be fine with the music that he reads...if they know about music (which they should), they would know that brass players don't play exactly the pitches written on the page.
So should I transpose just his copy of music, or should I transpose the whole thing, but notate it? And how do you even notate that?

But since we're making our own instruments, shouldn't we just tune them to play concert pitch? For example, I'm making a trombone, but smaller to get the higher pitch that I need, and trombones are in C. However, if I were making some obscure thing, then I would have no clue what pitch it should be in. I guess if you're making something that's OBVIOUSLY a clarinet or trumpet for example, then you could go with Bflat, but would they mark you down if you didn't?

They won't mark you down, for instance, for making a French Horn in concert key, or a Bb trumpet in concert key. This is YOUR instrument, it's not a Horn in F or a Bb Trumpet.

I'm not actually sure how this pitched instrument idea really works, but yeah our marimba is in G, and it only contains notes from the G scale.

So on my music then, I could notate it "Trombone in Bflat", and they take that? sweeet yo thanks.

And Bogoradwee, for your trombone, what are you doing for the bell?

Well, it's made out of a combination of PVC and CPVC. my bell, however, is just a funnel. So far, it works. Not entirely finished though.

I'm currently stuck on ideas for my wind instrument, any insight? I tried to make a recorder/flute out of clay, but that did not turn out very well - the lower pitches were "puffy" and you couldn't really make out the notes. Any other brilliant ideas?

im still kind of confused about the playing of shenandoah. so those two lines that they gave us i plan on letting the higher instrument play and composing a harmony for the percussion. for harmony, does it mean like just transpose it (same rhythm/beat) to a different key or can we actually change the rhythm and notes? also, besides the basic flute/trombone, are there any other ideas for the wind instrument?
