What does everyone think about Sumo Bots replacing Picture This in Division C?
Sumo Bots (I think it was called Robot Ramble) was actually our most expensive event when it was on 2 years ago. Schools that don't have sufficient budgets won't be able to support BOTH Sounds of Music and Sumo Bots.

I'm sure you could build a decent Sumo-bot with a cheap RC car and a few modifications (though I can't say for sure since I've never done the event).

How is SoM expensive. You just need common household items and could make a decsent thing. Sumo could be expensive though.

hmm i think i know three that are confirmed..
For division B:
Bottle Rockets
Microbe Mission
For division C:
Helicopter
For Bottle Rockets and Helicopter, I spoke to one of the event supervisors for Wright Stuff in Illinois.
For Microbe Mission, I was on it last year as a trial.. and at the awards ceremony in Augusta, they mentioned that it would be a 2010-2011 event

Oh, hrm. I believe Optics is also confirmed for division B next year.

I can already see the science room with a hole in the ceiling from some kid forgetting that you're supposed to launch rockets
outside. I'll practically be forced to go back and watch over practices to make sure they don't do anything excessively stupid.

What launching bottle rockets outside? Really? I never would have guessed (gasp)

.
That would be ironic though. It will be interesting of the rules of the events and the events themselves.

So is Bottle Rocket basically like Egg-O-Naut?

Sumo Bots is not Robot Ramble. Robot Ramble was a good event. Sumo Bots is designed in a way that scoring is largely bracket dependent because competition is head to head. Robot Ramble was a very good event, and yes, you would probably have to put in some money to do it very well. Robot ramble involved building a robot to complete certain tasks.

They are similar in that they are both powered by basic botle rockets, but in egg-o-naut, it is timed by when the egg (typically the last part of the rocket) hits the ground, plus bonuses. In bottle rockets, it is usually scored by when the first component of the rocket touches the ground, so the rocket will have to stay all in one piece. The times probably won't be nearly as high, but they are both unique challenges.
