C++, yes, calculators are allowed. At our last competition we used a programmable calculator that we impounded with the rest of our equipment.

scifipi, the rope we used was fairly thick, maybe around 3/4 cm in diameter (via http://iruler.net/)

i dont think we've ever had a failed launch with the rope.....knock on wood.......

Not at competition, but we have at practice. If you use rope as your trigger device, how well it works is determined by multiple factors. Just like all triggering devices.

In texas we just came back from a district competition: our team got third with 2 bullseyes for the raised target and 9 cm off the far target and 5 cm off the target for the second launch, and there was a tie for first. the judges went through 4 tiebreakers to find the winner, but we don't know what the other teams' scores were.

I'd have gone for the bucket shot if I got bulls-eye first time. I'm certainly glad I'm not in your region. 90 (I'm assuming there weren't any penalties) is a good score, and if three teams got that (or less) it would be very tough to come up with a medal.

I do believe if the second shot was 5 cm away, that would mean two teams got a score of 50.... That is insane... What were the target distances/heights?

Yeah, that's right, it would be 50. And since we know that at least two teams tied for first and we don't know their scores, we can assume that these teams got less than 50. That's pretty good.

The targets were 5m and 1m high, and 9m, we were thinking we got first and then were like WHAT????!!!!!

Yeah.... I can imagine. That was a really good score, and 9m is a pretty long shot... to see such good scores at regionals is crazy

I don't understand what to do for the four graphs. I have one graph (independent variable: launch angle, dependent variable: distance traveled), but what variables would be used in the other 3 graphs? There isn't a time component or anything like that...
