Rules are rules man. But always read the fine print. Our school's team is notorious for finding loopholes in the rules. You gotta know where to look...

The Roller Coaster ES at IL state was tiering teams for using a wristwatch to time their practice runs. He said that a wristwatch was a tool, and therefore should have been impounded. Phones are explicitly banned. (Per ISO policy, "Students found with cellphones may be asked to leave the event.") He also tiered teams for wristwatches at the regional he ran.

Seriously? Next, participants may as well impound their eyeglasses and fingernails. Just to be on the safe side...

Maybe their whole body too... they are a tool that could be used to improve the device

That's a pretty good justification actually, since it's definitely intentionally prepared to be used as a tool. An unimpounded wristwatch could have been modified after the target time was announced.

I don't think that a plain English reading of the word "tools" would include a wristwatch - an accessory worn daily by lots of people. I think his justification was that you'd have to impound a stopwatch, and a wristwatch does more or less the same thing, so he was treating it the same.
I see his point, although I don't think he's right.

I don't even care anymore(I'm from MM) because even with a 1st in roller(i'm pretty sure that's what we would have gotten according to the actual people in roller)

Winning roller coaster scored 501 (ie. it must have had about 80cm of gaps). The victor has posted his score in the forums somewhere. Yours scored what - something in the high 300s, with 50cm+ of gaps? If so, then you were probably 4th or 5th.
