Should I just start my SOSI AMA thread with that list? Looks like you've got a lot of them, heh.

I'm a little confused with regards to copyright and how it relates to the SOSI rules - if rule changes for events are discussed there, can these changes be shared on the forums?

Yeah basically if I follow robotman's guidelines I will be okay when posting during the meetings we have. Answering clarifying questions and stuff while not quoting rules directly. That's how I messed up last time when writing about Robot Arm and Electric Vehicle, the way I was explaining the rules didn't make sense so I quoted a part of them and that was a no-go. These are the four points robotman brought up:


In general, draft rules are considered complete property of NSO and as such, they usually ask people to refrain from sharing the draft rules.
In terms of Scioly.org policy, we will continue to follow our general guide that we use for all NSO rules:
1. No full scans or pictures of rules may be posted, uploaded, or linked on Scioly.org under any circumstances.
2. When quoting rules, limit your posts to one line of rules, preferably paraphrased (but with attribution). Direct quoting should be limited to issues regarding the phrasing of rules rather than discussions over the intent of rules (see rule 3).
3. If you must refer to something larger than one line of rules, you should simply refer to the appropriate section number and subsection number. (e.g. 2.a, 2.b, and 2.c).
4. Violations of these rules will result in bans or warnings assessed to your account, depending on how egregious the violation is.

I can't link to any rules on here, but I was looking for the NY trial herpetology rules and a link came up that said it was the draft rules of herpetology last edited (I think) on 6-1-16. It's a little different than the NY trial rules or the 2009 rules (some added species, can bring 1 binder), but I was wondering what that is. Thanks in advance!

New York ran herpetology as a trial event last year. Those are the rules that were used last year in NY.

EDIT: it doesn't say NY trial rules, but it's the one that was on their site.

It was also run in VA, with no binder (you got a field guide and one sheet of paper). I'd guess they would allow a binder based on the other ID events.

We did Herpetology at two invitationals in CA last year, both with binders allowed.

Also, there won't be an AMA this year. Moderators have been asked to keep draft rules details from SOSI on more of a lockdown this year, per SO INC's request concerning their proprietary information (draft rules). The information is meant to stay with the coaches who attend the workshop and not get released to the public until they are official in September. I'm fairly certain leaks will still happen, but not from me this year.

Bummer! Last year's thread was fun, but I understand their point, and as careful as I was, I don't want to step on any toes or ruffle any feathers. I'll just work on firming up some coaching contacts to trade invitationals while I'm there, heh.

Hey guys I am planning on doing Keep The Heat this year in Division B. I have been taking notes of the Wiki Page and see that it touches upon a wide variety of topics. If anyone with more experience than myself (which means any experience at all) could tell me how reliable a preparation tool the page is. It obviously won't be the only source I use but as a starting one, does it touch upon all the topics. What is missing? What do you think is covered well. Lastly, I understand that the rules with specific topics are not out yet but what do you think.

P.S. I would be more than happy to research and add topics considered missing as it would be could practice for be and beneficial to others.
