Throne of the North is a song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEDvS10AXeI.
"In the East or West it would fall" sounds like the sun setting in the west.
Interesting observation with capitalization (credit to dragon_fruit35), intended for proper nouns. Perhaps West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North/South, Olathe North or any other school with a direction in its name?

"in the East or West it would fall" sounds to me like some school that's in a relatively uncompetitive state.

Unfortunately, my clue is no longer entirely accurate. Since I had to update the clue, you can have an extra day (sorry about that, but it should definitely help you solve the clue...)
Due to recent events, the answer is now upon the throne, but it could fall as soon as today...

Recent events: Fidel Castro dies. Havana is basically at the northernmost point of Cuba.

WYR be taken hostage by evil aliens or by evil werewolves?
Have you forgotten what an officer does? Protect someone, even if you didn't solve the clue. The next time I get on and someone has protected someone, I'll post the next clue.
Yet again, the Scientists were stumped. They seemed to have some ideas, but they didn't end up calling any play at all, and instead just sat there, saying nothing. When they lined up on the field, texas took the snap, only to find no open receivers. Meanwhile, UTF had snuck on to the field in the middle of the play, causing a few bright yellow flags to fly through the air and a piercing whistle to bring the play to the end. As one announcer put it, "I don't know. It's like they've lost their mojo or something... they seemed to be doing well, and now? Well..." he trailed off as he realized what that meant. If Sciolyville couldn't pull off the Super Bowl, they would be the first to "accomplish" that feat since many years ago. What would they do?
UTF has been ejected.
As Fib walked back to the sideline, disheartened, she saw a flash of white sailing through the air. She jumped and caught it as it drifted by. It looked like a small origami football, but when she unfolded it, she found a note.
This has a kill clue and an ID clue. Catch me if you can...
Kill clue:
Happiness can be found in the darkest of times... and this might be able to help you with that, if only by another name.
