Ohio actually doesn't win out by numbers. In fact its registration number is actually only average. Will/Did you make it to nationals?

I think EAST meant the sheer quantity of teams that would be qualified to go to nats.personasaurus rex wrote:Ohio actually doesn't win out by numbers. Yeah, that's what I intended. Sorry if that wasn't clear.winneratlife wrote:I think EAST meant the sheer quantity of teams that would be qualified to go to nats.personasaurus rex wrote:Ohio actually doesn't win out by numbers. Re: Will you make it to nationals?
The same way we don't see the competition at KS States, we also don't see the competition at PA States. Just looking at the Wiki, since 2006 PA B has had 5 different teams go to nationals, Kansas has had 4, not that much of a difference. Harriton and Penncrest have both gone every year since 06, but 3rd place has gone to 3 different teams, 4 if you go back to 05. 3 Different teams have cracked the top 2 in KS C since 06. Clearly their isn't much different in how competitive they arezyzzyva98 wrote:I'd wager that parity is a better thing for a state. Sure, if you make it to nationals every year you'd be happy with it, but a good state will have many- not just 3- many teams with a chance to win.
In PA B Division
(1st to 3rd, Difference between 2nd and 3rd)
2006 (44, 9)
2007 (34, 24)
2008 (82, 16) <-Sewickley got 6th at nats this year
2009 (79, 29)
2010 (29, 1)
Just gonna throw in NorCal Scores for another point of comparison
NorCal B (difference between qualifying and not qualifying for nationals)
2008 (13)
2009 (12)
2010 (25)
PA C Division
2006 (103, 100)
2007 (15 points between 1st and 2nd)
2008 (42, 30)
2009 (86, 13)
2010 (107, 65)
NorCal C
2008 (13)
2009 (30)
2010 (49)
Admittedly C Division in PA isn't as competitive as the B division. But when you look at the B Division, 1 event can make or break your chance at nationals (29 is the highest the difference between going to nats and not is, and there are 35 teams that go to states.)
I'll add KS stuff once Z give me the data

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
I wasn't exactly saying Kansas would be competitive in that sense (Though I think about five teams could contend for first this year, it seems wide open). I'd just prefer a state that has many teams go to nats instead of one team year after year. I'm not sure there are many states like that out there.
I'm not sure how the data about the difference between first, second and third applies here >.>
I'm also not sure if I'll be able to get the data from more than a few years back. But I'll try.

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
The data is meant to show parity. One team might be able to pull out a win year after year, but states are in fact very competitive. Different teams going (something KS doesn't have an exceptional amount of) is often a result of parity, but not the whole story.zyzzyva98 wrote:I wasn't exactly saying Kansas would be competitive in that sense (Though I think about five teams could contend for first this year, it seems wide open). Ok perhaps I was just a little bored and that was unnecessary...

Re: Will you make it to nationals?
In Alabama there is pretty much no parity. The same teams go every time, just sort of in an alternating pattern. All of them are big private schools of course... those always win here. *sigh*

From Washington, all I know that the Western side is much more competitive than the Eastern side.

In CA, Troy High School goes to Nats every time. But in Division B, you can sort of see little reigns from different middle schools. I think it used ot be El Rancho Middle School, but now it's Muscatel. I'm not in either of them. DX

Hey, don't complain. In Missouri it's almost been Ladue or Pembroke Hill the last 5 years.
