Does anyone have the scuttlebutt on Physics Lab? The test, as far as I know, was not according to the rules (it was basically last year's conservation of energy questions with 10 or so Alternative Energy questions stuck on the end--the topic is purely alternative energy and heat transfer, for those of you who aren't familiar with the event this year).

My team didn't file an appeal, because we didn't do to well in other events and I didn't want to make a stink, but does anyone know what the deal was? This has happened a couple of times in the past two years at States, where topics on written exams kind of came out of the blue. Last year, it was Ecology, if I'm not mistaken (although from what I am told, there were only a few such questions).

So my point is twofold:
1st, does anyone know if there was a problem and they had to make the test on the fly or something?
2nd, perhaps it would be a good idea to ask for an audit of tests by State SciOly officials before competition to ensure that all tests are "by the book." I am interested in feedback before I write any letters. Please let me know.

I agree, a lot of times people are just angry and want to jump to conclusions.
Like 2 years ago, WM got 26th in Sound of Music, judged by the Spackenkill coach (I believe, unless I misunderstood), and we happened to miss 2nd by 9 points, to Spackenkill. The 26th made no sense to us, since the judges said that our Sound of Music pair had the best performance they heard all day, and they went near the end. At first, we were furious, because we suspected sabotage, and we were really upset that that one event, which we usually get 1st or 2nd in, cost us nationals (though it wasnt the only event we did poorly on).
But after a while, we decided that while the judging was still not fair, it wasn't an intentional plan to ruin our chances to go to States, it just happened to work out that way.
I am from Spackenkill and did Sound of Music 2 years ago. Just to clarify, my coaches definitely did not coach the event that year or any year.

Something was definitely wrong with that event.. the top 5 teams all got over 40th place except FM, and even they got 17th.. The structure was so easy, i really dont know what could've happened.. The other proctor (im not sure what school he was from) seemed like he didnt know what he was doing.. He made students hand out the papers and structures.. I really hope the position of the structure didn't affect the scoring, because it was different for everybody. I think they should have had the structures laid out on the desks for us when we walked in.

alright, honestly? the FM coach was the event supervisor, and dont you find it just a little strange that 2 of FM's biggest competitions got like above 40 or DQ? hmmmmm
I know that coach personally. There are some things that I don't like about her, but when it comes to coaching She would never give her team an unfair advantage. Some type of small advantage is unavoidable, but it would never be
enough to make a large difference.

My best friend is on FM's WIDI, so don't you dare insinuate that they didn't deserve to do well.

Go to the website, and under "State Info" Click "Division C" and it sends you straight to the results

Ahh I found out why, everybody if you can't see the results close the nyscioly page and then clear your cache. Then go back. They must've done some weird things with images.
