what's the problem? is it that your buggy doesn't go straight? If you're so concerned you can set it off a little (use a sighting device and set it off from it) to avoid penalties.

Start by checking wheel and axle alignment using a carpenters square

then wheel locking and frame angles.

No, the rules prohibit it. moreover, you automaticaly loose 20 points bonus.

When identifying prohibitions in the rules, it's always best to quote the language that states the prohibition. What is the language that requires the vehicle to start on the centerline?

anyway, aiming the buggy off course would be a better option. Instead of automatically losing the pts, at least you could go for it and you might lose those points but the buggy could veer in the opposite direction before the wheels on the end cross the tape.

Has anyone found any advantange / disadvantage to a front wheel powered car as opposed to a rear wheel powered car?

There is a post on this forum about it, but generally I think that front wheel breaking (aka a rear wheel powered car) has less skid.
