It appears to have been a tier (surely a competition violation) according to the final score report. You have about the same odds of getting struck by lightning as you do disqualifying any team, especially one of the best, at the State level.
I've witnessed one DQ out of every tournament I've been to. I wonder what the odds in terms of the number of people-events competed at those tournaments are...

No, I know that with MM getting tiered, but Unome said he had only seen one DQ at a tournament, and I haven't seen any so I was curious.pb5754[] wrote:Using their cell phones to time their roller coaster.hippo9 wrote:Out of curiosity what was the DQ for?Unome wrote: Wow, not sure why I didn't notice that (even knowing IL has more than 40 teams at state...). Re: Illinois 2018
The Roller Coaster ES at IL state was tiering teams for using a wristwatch to time their practice runs. He said that a wristwatch was a tool, and therefore should have been impounded. Phones are explicitly banned. (Per ISO policy, "Students found with cellphones may be asked to leave the event.") He also tiered teams for wristwatches at the regional he ran.19alekb wrote: Yeah, but first off, it's a stupid rule because you can't cheat with a phone. We were just using it as a timer and even though it wasn't allowed, it's stupid we got dq'd. We weren't cheating and the dqing for not that fair of a reason kind of ruins people's spirit to scioly somewhat.

That's a pretty good justification actually, since it's definitely intentionally prepared to be used as a tool. An unimpounded wristwatch could have been modified after the target time was announced.knightmoves wrote:The Roller Coaster ES at IL state was tiering teams for using a wristwatch to time their practice runs. Yeah all of the rulings make sense, and I know it's unfortunate for MM, but they should have been more careful, and paid more attention to the rules, even though I personally think it was a minor infraction.Unome wrote:That's a pretty good justification actually, since it's definitely intentionally prepared to be used as a tool. Re: Illinois 2018
I don't even care anymore(I'm from MM) because even with a 1st in roller(i'm pretty sure that's what we would have gotten according to the actual people in roller) we still would have lost to SAA by one point. SAA just had a good day and we had a bad one. Fast facts went down the drain as well. SAA was consistent while we had some very good events and some pretty trash ones.hippo9 wrote:Yeah all of the rulings make sense, and I know it's unfortunate for MM, but they should have been more careful, and paid more attention to the rules, even though I personally think it was a minor infraction.Unome wrote:That's a pretty good justification actually, since it's definitely intentionally prepared to be used as a tool. Yeah go get em next year. Despite your doubts I'm sure MM will still be competitive.19alekb wrote: I don't even care anymore(I'm from MM) because even with a 1st in roller(i'm pretty sure that's what we would have gotten according to the actual people in roller) we still would have lost to SAA by one point.
