Oh yikes 😭 Never mind, ignore what I said about flying solo being easy--
Is there any platform you can clamp a torque meter or winding stooge to? I've used countertops, rails(uhhh maybe don't do this unless you have 4 bright neon DeWalt clamps and iron nerves), a chair, stools, my toolbox, and a bunch of random other things.

I have—get this—a ✨cardboard box✨

It works fine for the most part. I attached some nonslip feet and put a 2 pound dumbbell inside so that it wouldn’t move. I just have to kneel in order to wind,

Oooh that's smart!!! I just have toothpick arms so I'm too lazy to carry around dumbbells. But then again, my toolbox probably weighs more than 2 pounds... and that's not counting the other 4 boxes I need to carry to competition.
Whoever came up with the separate impound box per plane really hates the competitors this year... Like c'mon, the stack of boxes I carry is taller than my head.

I knowwww. Who wakes up to write the rules of one of the most competitive events in Science Olympiad and goes: “Hey, what if I made them carry more luggage than a family of four moving to Thailand?”. Smh.

And the dimensions of the plane for Div. C? Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Love that description though haha!
Seriously though, I don't get why the ES couldn't just bring the box. Saves a lot of time.

ACCESS DENIED ACHIEVEMENT: We’re just built different😎
NICE ANTI-STOIC ACHIEVEMENT: Most of my friends bombed their events lol
BEAT THE CURVE ACHIEVEMENT: Somehow I got 5th in flight with a 20 second time in our first invite and there were like 30 teams so I guess a lot of people just didn’t bring plan or something?
BIOHAZARD ACHIEVEMENT: Food poisoning is fun
DEAD GIVEAWAY ACHIEVEMENT: For some reason a lot of tests are written like this it’s WEIRD
ENEMY SPY ACHIEVEMENT: That’s just the flight forum in a nutshell
EVENT POLYGON ACHIEVEMENT: Don’t really know what to say here so hi
ENVIRONMENTALLY CAUTIOUS ACHIEVEMENT: Storm the castle was fun
“F” ACHIEVEMENT: So I may or may not have broken the nose bearing off my plane during the ten minutes allotted for flight
FALSE FLEX ACHIEVEMENT: It’s all about the MIND GAMES I’m an EVIL MASTERMIND and YES I DID READ DARKSTALKER LEGENDS BEFORE REGIONALS and that DID NOT INSPIRE ME TO DO THIS
HOST ACHIEVEMENT: Flight is so much fun
HUNGER ACHIEVEMENT: I had chicken nuggies and the codebusters ES was chill so yeah
INVITATIONAL RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT: I make friends everywhere it’s hilarious how many people wanna be your friend when you know where the bathroom is
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT: Hi Luci <3
LINGUISTICS ACHIEVEMENT: All we knew is that pico was smaller than nano so yeah a picosecond is one trillionth of a second
‘MURICA ACHIEVEMENT: REGIONALS LAST YEAR YEAHHHHH
NEWTON-LEIBNIZ ACHIEVEMENT: same as linguistics
PARASITE ACHIEVEMENT: I’M SORRY CAN’T JUDGE A POWDER IS SO BORING YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME MAN
PLAYER DOWN ACHIEVEMENT: Not me, but one of my friends couldn’t attend regional awards because he had and allergic reaction to a Chick-fil-a sandwich
POPULARITY ACHIEVEMENT: We went to two invites before regionals last year
REGIONALS RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT: Yeah some flight kids needed to fix their plane so I lended them my scissors and we became BEST FRIENDS
SPEEDWRITE ACHIEVEMENT: We ALL finished our codebusters questions within the last 15 minutes of the test in one of our invites
STATES RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT: MORE FRIENDS YAY
SCIOLY GUY ACHIEVEMENT: ….
SCRIPPS ACHIEVEMENT: Yeah I misspelled one of my teammates name because we all forgot to right our names and had to do in the last ten seconds of the test
SECRET AGENT ACHIEVEMENT: Listen I needed flight data at states and everyone was doing worse than us so I’d say that’s a win
SHOCKER ACHIEVEMENT: Back in the 2021-2022 season I had to do a trial event that I did NOT sign up for and I was not notified about this until 20 minutes before it started
SURROUNDED BY IDIOTS ACHIEVEMENT: There was an ES in flight who was using the INCHES side to measure my plane’s box like what are you doing man
THE LENGTHS I GO FOR SCIENCE OLYMPIAD ACHIEVEMENT: Listen flight takes a lot of time and is exponentially more interesting than geometry or bio
TEAM RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT: Hi Chloe <3
THE GENEROUS DONOR ACHIEVEMENT: SEE-REGIONALs RELATIONS ACHIEVEMENT
UN-STREET SMART ACHIEVEMENT: ONE SCHOOL THAT WE WENT TO FOR AN INVITE WAS NUMBERED SO WEIRDLY LIKE ROOM 241-249 WERE IN THE SAME HALLWAY BUT WHEN YOU LOOK FOR 250 IT’S ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BUILDING WE WERE ALMOST LATE TO CODEBUSTERS
USELESS CALCULATOR ACHIEVEMENT: My first year in scioly I did road scholar and neither me or my partner knew what we were doing so yeah the calculator was kinda useless

OH MY GOD THAT TOOK SO LONG

The un-street smart one is so true! Picture someone at states with 5 of the 6 possible time slot filled, each with 15 seconds. Picture sprinting through the pouring down rain with a massive Crimebusters kit, which slips and every single beaker breaks. That’s how NC states was 2023 season lol

Speedwrite achievement- I did my parter’s half of the Anatomy and Physiology test in the last 10 minutes. I think she had 3 right in the 60 questions I asked her to do. We ended up getting 2nd place for that event in regionals, which is good for our team! (A low-income rural school who’s never medaled overall at states.)

Beat the curve achievement- this happened in Crimebusters at regionals and states last year! We didn’t finish the test at either, but we had nearly every question correct.

Newton-Leibniz achievement- literally the entire Anatomy and Physiology States last year. I think I get bonus points because my partner didn’t know ANYTHING.

Multiple choice guess achievement- literally every event...

Blind stab achievement- we did this in Fast Facts last year! They counted “kangaroo poop” as an answer, giving us 18 extra points and a medal.

Host Achievement- like I mentioned above, Anatomy and Physiology…

In-street smart achievement- I almost missed an event at states last year because of this! My parter told his parents that he refused to do the event if I wasn’t there, so I’m glad I made it.

Love this forum!

CLUTCH ACHIEVEMENT: Start studying for an event 24 hours before competition. Geocaching cheat sheet that I thought my partner was doing...I think we got gold though.
MEGA-CLUTCH ACHIEVEMENT: Start studying for an event the day of competition-Got dynamic planet about an hour before the test and failed it.
SPEED BUILD ACHIEVEMENT: Your engineering device breaks in transit, so you rebuild the whole thing at competition. Roller Coaster, Sound of Music, Robo Cross and Mission Possible(all of my build events the past two years.) We rebuilt one of them ON THE BUS.
SPEEDWRITE ACHIEVEMENT: Finish half of your test or more in the last 15 minutes. We medalled though, sooooo
FLYING SOLO ACHIEVEMENT: Take a test without a cheat sheet or binder-Dynamic planet, and a lot of my events at invitationals.
EULER ACHIEVEMENT: Take a calculation-based test without a calculator-Yeahhhh, I left it in our homeroom.
ANCIENT EGYPT ACHIEVEMENT: Handwrite your whole cheat sheet…No, but I did write my entire Data Log and Design Log for Roller Coaster on the hotel sticky notes for state...The event supervisor wasn't impressed.
NEWTON-LEIBNIZ ACHIEVEMENT: The equation (or information) is not on your cheat sheet, so you derive it (or reason it out) during the test. Sound of Music
GUESSTIMATION ACHIEVEMENT: Your engineering device did not require use of a ruler/protractor/standard measurement tool. I think we built our entire Roller Coaster without measuring it once.
REVERSE ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT: Your blueprint was created after your engineering device was built. On hotel sticky notes I stuck together an hour before state...
BEAT THE CURVE ACHIEVEMENT: Know that you did horribly in an event, but still medal, probably because no one else knew what they were doing either. For Fast Facts, we literally answered "Dwayne the Rock Johnson" for rocks that start for R and "Pop Rocks" for rocks that start with P. We got first at state though.
MULTIPLE GUESS ACHIEVEMENT: Completely guess an answer for a multiple choice/matching question and be right. This is usually what happens on EVERY multiple choice question.
BLIND STAB ACHIEVEMENT: Completely make up a number or term to a free-response question and actually be right. When the time was almost up, my partner and I went through and put random answers for questions we hadn't answered yet. I put something like 27 down and actually got it right.
BS ACHIEVEMENT: Make up your own theory to a Short Essay question and get full points for the question.-I wrote a paragraph for meteorology about something I never heard and couldn't pronounce. Then, the event supervisor wrote a note next to my answer telling me how beautifully written it was..
HOST ACHIEVEMENT: Win an event with a completely useless partner-yeahhhhhh
PARASITE ACHIEVEMENT: Win an event as the completely useless partner. -I had geocaching and we had been running so much that my side felt like it was going to explode. The time was almost up so my partner had to sprint back to the event room while I sat on the sidewalk clutching my side.
STUDY EVENT PARASITISM ACHIEVEMENT: Use a binder/notes/cheat sheet made by a previous team member instead of your own. We used a previous Crave the Wave binder for Sound of Music at invitationals.
RAGE ACHIEVEMENT: Actually get first in an event (raw score) but don't get the medal because graders screwed up. -Not necessarily, but there was a question very specific to the region that the competition that the event was in that made me mad. We didn't need to know location specific information and the host team ended up getting first...
UN-STREET SMART ACHIEVEMENT: Get lost on the way to competition/at competition site when trying to find your rooms.-I got lost in between EVERY event at state in Milwaukee. I ended up being 10 minutes late to meteorology.
AESTHETICS ACHIEVEMENT: Have the prettiest engineering device, regardless of how well it works. Our Sound of Music instrument was beautiful, but it didn't play a single note.
ANTI-AESTHETICS ACHIEVEMENT: Have the ugliest engineering device, preferably one held together entirely by tape – ultra bonus points if you end up winning. Our roller coaster was 80% hot glue, 10% hockey tape, and 110 percent masking tape added on at the last minute because it broke on the bus ride to the competition.
