Hey, I'm assuming you're from Shady Side! I'm a 10th grader who was on the BCMS team last year. First of all, it's BALA CYNWYD. Please get it right. And secondly, I've been visiting the BC team once in a while. They are in a pretty weak state now, since a lot of their team members have been doing less-than-stellar jobs when it comes to effort. You probably know this because of their recent invitationals. So if you're going to make you're comeback, this would be a great year to battle it out with Strath Haven between 1st and 2nd. But that's not guaranteed at all at this point, not only because of all the other 30+ teams that make it to states, because the only thing that BC lacks is motivation. There are tons of smart people on that team with a lot of potential, but honestly a lot of them just don't fully understand what they need to do for the team. But when they see posts like yours (and I am sure they will, since I am about to send it to them all), that's really one of the best forms of motivation they can get. I wish you and your team, which never ceases to amaze the rest of Pennsylvania, good luck in the next short couple of months!

HINT to BC people reading this: get off of minecraft and try to even make it to states, for god's sake!

And another thing: I can tell you with certainty that although my team and Strath Haven's might have felt a little bad for you guys last year, you're not getting anywhere by antagonizing us into people who "deprived" you of going to nationals. What, did you already make reservations? This is a competition! Expect it to get competitive. It's no wrongdoing of ours if we beat you! That's what revenge is for! If you think you should have beaten us, then get to it! You're already a lot more motivated than SOME people I know, so you have a lot going for you!
Agreed^
I've seen a serious issue with certain teams' reactions to missing nationals. I can tell you that last year, us and S-Haven worked our asses off to reach the point that we did (although I'm not saying that you didn't). Honestly though, no one deprived you of your trip to Nationals but yourselves. If anything, I believe that the recent trend, (despite that it involves a slight decline from my former team) is a positive one. It is called PARITY. For many years, our state was dominated by extremely high-funded private schools, with more available work time than public schools, giving them an obvious advantage. Last year was the first time since 2002 that 2 public schools (representing a vast majority of PA students) advanced to nationals from PA in division B.
And one last thing: Do you think we weren't upset that after (probably) our best regionals win ever in 2009 that you beat us at states? Unfortunately, 3rd place has always been the most disappointing position to finish in, despite the amazing achievement that it represents.

Agreed as well ^^
i was also formerly on BCSO last yr and like what my teammates have said before we and Strath Haven tried very hard last year and previous years. It does suck to lose by one point but that's life, get used to it. 2 yrs ago we got 3rd losing to you guys and yes we were upset but we did not post on scioly saying we despised Shady side because they beat us. It is a competition and as you know, PA is VERY competitive. And yes, sorry to say but you can only blame yourselves for not making it to nationals. Perhaps it may be Strath Haven that deprived you guys of the chance because they worked their ass off and they deserved it. I'm not saying you guys dont deserve it but just because Strath Haven beat you guys out of nats doesnt mean you get to 'curse' them. I mean that was their first year making it to nats. How many times has Shady Side gone to nats? All teams have their ups and downs and you just have to adapt to them and study harder for next yr. Its all part of the competition and a major part of it is being a good sport. I'm sorry you feel that you got deprived out of the chance to go to nats but maybe you will this year. I can tell you that it wont be easy. Bala Cynwyd (please get the name right, its not that hard to spell...) and Strath Haven continue to work very hard.

So please, just because you are disappointed for not going to nats, that doesnt give you the right to talk bad about Strath Haven or Bala Cynwyd. And do not expect to win PA states fairly easily. Like i said before, PA is VERY competitive and in scioly, we defy the odds.

oh and shady side dude, we felt rly srry for u guys last year and i still do. so dont think we're all gloaty because u didn't go to nats. also what was stated before is true; you do go to nationals much more than SH and BC. (BC went four times, SH went one time)

Haha. I'm QUITE glad I'm in a pretty noncompetitive state. (So I don't have to deal with anyone trash-talking me, my school or my mom if we beat them to Nats. ) And my team is so small and new we don't stand a chance to even make it to state. I will just enjoy regionals for what they are, and hope we medal in the few events we are registered for.

If I win a medal in anything, I am sending a picture of me with it, grinning like an idiot, to practically everyone I know. Should be fun... (If I make it!)

Thank you people for humbling myself. I'm deeply sorry for that post. :| I wish both Bala Cynwyd and Strath Haven best of luck in states. I'm glad that I have motivated both teams. I want tough competition for states. I'm sorry that that comment was posted.
Science, yeah!

Made a new team. 7th place at NH states. Officially the champions of Vermont.

@TheArchitect: PA is the toughest state. I don't think anyone needed your post for motivation. These are three big schools who are heavyweights in SO, and obviously very motivated already to have consistently made it to Nats. Maybe in the future you should use the motivation garnered from losing to study harder for next year. Then you get the bragging rights of going to Nats. ;)

In my opinion, OH is currently the toughest state, because of the sheer quantity of qualified teams. But I agree that this competition between these heavyweights can only be good for the state.

I'd wager that parity is a better thing for a state. Sure, if you make it to nationals every year you'd be happy with it, but a good state will have many- not just 3- many teams with a chance to win.
