At states and nats, are you supposed to ID the powder? Just asking, cuz I didn't have to @ Regs.

Nope, you're never asked to ID the powder.

Yeah!
it's a really fun event though (especially at some Invitationals we went to) and the labs were really exciting so it's not too bad of a change. And nope, no ID of the powder needed.

Does anybody know anything about it? such as the amount of chemistry, what we can expect to see, etc. It sounds awesome- combines two of my favorite things- cooking and science!

I'm just angry it's taking CJAP my fave event! I'm not planning on doing it! I hope you have a bunch of time tocook, as cooking is time consuming, as I learned in 6th grade FACS.

yeah, but it is fun and is something useful to do when I get tired of staring at fossilized seashells. I mean, besides clean my room *coughs.* And how much is actual cooking? I was under the impression that it was the science behind cooking. If not, (actually, even so), I will have to bust out my Alton Brown cookbooks and my brand-new copy of Cooking for Geeks.

When we did it as a Trial Event, there wasn't much cooking. Although it may (probably will) be different next year, ours was taking a test, using solutions like Benedict's, Biuret's and Sudan, and using a Calorimeter. It wasn't cooking but more of science behind cooking, and there was a lot of chemistry on the test (but it was organic chem. so it all depends)
