I just noticed that in the National Invasive Species List "Rock Snot (Didymosphenia geminata)" is listed before "Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophhyllum spicatum)". They forgot to move it after the trial rules. (It said Didymo instead) Lol

Hate to double-post. I've noticed that on almost every invasives test I've taken, a main problem is quite simply... space. If I'm naming both names of an invasive species there is never enough space to legibly write both the Latin Binomial and the Common name. On the most recent test I took, there were 3 lines for impact, but only 1 line for everything else. I might have lost points on my tests because of this. But..... I don't now because the both times I went to an invitational, my invasives tests got lost.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm feeling quite frustrated with particular identification features between similar species. If you have any help for the following it would be greatly appreciated:

Giant Reed versus Common Reed
Quagga Mussel versus Zebra Mussel
Medusahead versus Downy Brome
Yellow Toadflax versus Dalmatian Toadflax

While I have looked up differences between these species, and am able to tell the difference on occasion, personal observations and identification tips would be greatly appreciated for continuous success with identification. Thank you for your help!

Giant Reed versus Common Reed= Giant Reed's stem looks like bamboo and is waaayyy thicker than Common Reed's. Common Reed's stem is like wheat or something.

Quagga Mussel versus Zebra Mussel= This one's easy. Quagga Mussel is smaller and lighter. Zebra Mussel is larger and more striped than the former. Think like a zebra I guess.

Medusahead versus Downy Brome= Medusahead looks way (bad adjective) "silkier". Also Downy Brome has these weird seed pods. A good test will show you that.

Yellow Toadflax versus Dalmatian Toadflax= *Gulp* This is a bad tip but usually Yellow is yellower than Dalmatian. The leaves are pretty differentiating. If they don't show you leaves, feel free to go with the first tip.

Guess one and pray you get it right. Basically the same story with ALHB and CLHB (unless they give a super zoomed in clear pic) and the same can be said if they give a random plain in black n white with a ton of Downy Brome-esque plants.

I would also recommend looking for sites with information specifically for your state. You can probably do this just by googling "invasive species in [state]" or "[state] invasive species" or "invasive species laws in [state]" or "[state] invasive species laws" or...you get the point.

Making a good, complete binder takes 120hr. You may not have that. As for learning the specimens, make flash cards; use Quizlet if you prefer digital.
