So how was the competition itself? Was it well run?

I think it's interesting that even though this invitational is farther South in Pennsylvania where most of the best schools are, not many of them were there. They all went to Athens though.

Maybe they're more used to Athens, and they think Tiger is less competitive.

Posit: People think a Invitational might be less competitive.
Consequence: People start to not attend the invitational.
Result: Pretty soon it is not a competitive invitational.

Yeah, only two of these teams were in the Top 10 in PA last year and even though the MD team made it to Nationals last year they only came in 50th. A far cry from the top 10 that PA, OH, and NY schools consistently fill.

I am not sure if it was run well or not and can see why it would not look competitive but practice is practice and I would have liked to have gone to an invitational and gotten some practice before our Regional. Studying at school does not compare to an actual competition.

No offense, but the fact of the matter is that Athens and Tiger are very close to one another. Most teams don't want to spend the money on two invitationals. Athens was set up first, has shown itself to be fairly well run, and consistently pulls in top C division teams from both NY and PA. It is not that because teams think that Tiger is less competitive that it will be less competitive, it already is less competitive and will dissolve or stay that way unless people begin to think it is more competitive. Also the Tiger invitational isn't THAT much closer. The same thing happened to two invites (I think two) held in New York this year. They are not as established as Athens (even though Athens isn't very old it was still first) and so they did not attract as many competitive teams. Tiger is pulling only less competitive teams as opposed to more competitive teams because more competitive teams want to go to a more competitive invitational. It still attracts teams, however these are teams who are likely less competitive as is evidenced by the fact that they are willing to save time and go to the less competitive invitational. I don't say this to offend anyone, but it is the truth.

I have a chart the door to my room. It had four columns. The left column shows a date, and the next three columns show the number of days until regionals, states, and nationals on that date, including the current day. Today is 2/10/09. Including today, there are 27 days until Southeastern Pennsylvania regionals, 80 days until Pennsylvania States, and 94 days until Nationals.

Just wanted to clear things up. :D
