If I may say something, in a starlab they will usually give you red-filtered flashlights, so you can see what you're doing. You can read notes without a problem, unless you have really tiny, miniscule font.
The last time they had a starlab at West Point students had to bring their own flashlights, but they were notified in advance. They haven't had a starlab in years, though.

So here starts the NY C competition at West Point. For those returning: you know what to expect and will probably want to go crazy to get those medals. Pro tip: take a few breaths and relax! West Point is an amazing place and you might forget to have fun if you're too lost in the competition. This especially applies for seniors. Enjoy it!

For the new participants: West Point weekend is amongst the greatest memories I have from high school. It's a two-fold memory - the fun and the hard work. So for you who are new, don't get completely swept away by the setting or the intensity of competition. Enjoy your events and do your best to prove your abilities.

It's a strange combination of advice, but I would argue that they work together: don't forget why you're there, but don't forget to enjoy it while it lasts. So get out there and do your best, and try to see some of the open events if you can! Bonus good luck to the Mid-State Region (see: home-bias), but I hope everyone has a smooth weekend. Let us know how it goes!

honestly though, its hard to not be stressed out about states, esp when youre a possibly-nats school... =/ and also idk its just been harder to have fun at competitions in C division cuz im a freshman so i was in B div last year and our team was def going to states but def not going to nats so we relaxed and had soooo much fun at competitions lol

The Syracuse newspaper site....syracuse.com... is reporting that FM finished in 1st place and will be going to the nationals again this year. They report 7 golds, 3 silver, 2 bronze, and 2 4th place finishes. Congratualtions to FM.

And congratulations to all the participants.
