rather funny story at state (oops i forgot how to do hide)

It's 10:03.

I just finished my A+P test, and am talking to the MS team about the test. Then, I realize that my events started 3 minutes ago, and it's a 5 min walk from here. I run of the room, sprint uphill, with my dad right with me.

Luckily, the test for Hovercraft still hadn't started (and didn't start for the next 5 minutes :/) so all was well.

10:45

My partner and I finish our test, and head on over to the testing center. However, I realize that my next event starts in 15 minutes, and I have to get everything ready and test with a queue already forming. I hastily assemble my hovercraft, add my masses, and wait in line (i asked people if I could go before them but it seemed everyone had an event at 11 so rip). Then, I set up my hovercraft on the track, and start the motors.

It wouldn't move.

Now it's like 11 and my hovercraft picks this time to not go forward (it went all the other times I tested). I'm sitting there, thinking, "Wow, I'm so screwed." I try 4 times, and yet it still fails (for those of you who don't do hovercraft, you get 5 failed runs, and then you're done). Finally, on my last try, with 2 minutes remaining on the clock, I decided to modify it. With basically no time to spare, I run it.

It works! But, with the time being 8 minutes after 11, I tell my partner to pack it up, give my backpack to my dad except for my ref sheet, and sprint all the way across the campus for my next event. I'm out there, sprinting more than I did in the past year, coated in sweat. And then, finally, with my breath ragged and me dying for water, I run in.

The event started at 11:10 .-.

Did you know which schools submitted bids or did you just make a wild guess?

Well it wasn't quite a wild guess; I thought about it and considered that 1) they haven't hosted in a while, and were slated to host some years ago (2004?) but had to cancel for some reason 2) they have a history of good state tournaments and a reputation as a generally well-run state, and 3) who else is there? (probably several, but I couldn't think of any other places).

I have no idea who 2021 will be though, or what happened to Missouri and 2019.

I believe IU Bloomington submitted a bid for 2020 since that's IU's bicentennial year...

The only Missouri universities of national tournament size are UMKC and UM-Columbia. Columbia used to be our state location, but they kicked us out in 2014. That leaves UMKC, which has little tournament experience, and our state director didn't want it there.

What counts as national tournament size? Juniata isn't all that large (nor is UW-Stout for that matter, at least in terms of building space), but they supported everyone just fine.

I notice several regional tournaments hosted at universities with sufficient size, but I'm not sure whether the rule about them having to have hosted a combined state tournament still applies (though many of the hosts didn't do so until after they got the bid; Augusta State University hosted a combined tournament just once, in 2008).
