Re: Disease Detective B/C
At some invitationals/state last year, (In Ohio, at least - Not sure about other states) for tiebreakers, testmakers would include old-fashioned names for diseases, then ask what they were caused by - like St. Anthony's Fire, The Grippe, Yellow Jack, etc. I would like to include these on my cheat sheet for State, but cannot find the tests that include this tiebreaker. If anyone has a test with this, could they please post the list of old-fashioned names, (I can look up the diseases) on here? Thank you. =)

For Nationals do you guys think that we should learn basic statistics from the AP Stats textbook? For example standard deviation, interquartile range etc. How many scenarios are you guys expecting? Last year they gave us 3 so should we think that they'll give us 4?
EDIT: Is this taking it too far?

Yes. Yes it is.ptkid wrote:For Nationals do you guys think that we should learn basic statistics from the AP Stats textbook? For example standard deviation, interquartile range etc. How many scenarios are you guys expecting? Last year they gave us 3 so should we think that they'll give us 4?

And about number of scenarios. Probably 3. It's been 3 the past two years (for Div C at least) and it's still going to be the CDC writing the test.

That is correct! I just figured out how to reply on this thing, so thanks a bunch to everyone that helped!EASTstroudsburg13 wrote:I want to reiterate everything havenguy said, and you also want to get practice using the formulas beforehand, so you don't have to spend as much time looking them up at the competition. Same thing with types of studies; if you can get good at knowing them and how they work, it'll save you time later on. It'll also probably give you a better overall understanding of epidemiology. The diseases are the biggie for the reference sheet, in my opinion, because that's not really worth your time studying as much as the other info.
Also, are you from Stroudsburg, by chance? I looked up the scores and they got 3rd at regionals as well.

Calculations is a big part of this event. There are a couple nationals tests on the test exchange that you can look at to get a better idea of what to study.

Re: Disease Detective B/C
Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten this as a station? The rules say it could be a test or a station, so just wondering what the station could be like
