preserving leaves takes a long time and you aren't going to find a lot of many specimens

don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT activity, its fun, but not the best way to study
No amount of looking at pictures can match the benefit derived from studying real specimens! :D

its not really "possible" unless you are willing to travel across pretty much the whole north american continent
i guess
we would mostly have to hope that individual states would have their own state specimens list?
im just praying that IL will do it JUST for this one event...

as far as I have seen, IL has never had its own lists, so don't keep your hopes up. I actually just found postage stamps with evergreen species on them :D

New York makes many of their own lists. I think they do it for all the events.

I have a stamp collection and I have many foreign stamps. Some have plants on them but they are mostly from other biomes and countries. I have a few from Europe, China, and Australia. I am highly doubtful that any of them will be on the tree list next year.

Since nobody has posted since I said the above, I am just adding onto this post instead of double posting . . .
I just read the Forestry Training Guide for 2004-2005. It says the following:
State and regional competitions will use modified lists provided by the state director

OK, here are the microwave results:
This is the first one, which I put into the microwave between some paper towels and on top of a plate.

This is the second one, which I put into the microwave between some paper towels and under a plate. This method seems to work.

After you microwave the leaf, is it still necessary to iron it with wax paper?
