Effects of blown mind:
Decreased grammer abilities.
Decreased spelling abilities.
Will observe at State for effects on overall intelligence.

Is your mind still intact? If not, could you direct some people at Corn here as well?FullMetalMaple wrote:Maybe this is why no one on my team wants to join the site... just kidding.TheGenius wrote:That should make State easier. While you're still consious, could you get some of your teammates to this thread so I can blow their minds?

My mind doesn't get blown too easily. I don't know anyone on Corn's Science Olympiad team, though. Sorry.TheGenius wrote:Is your mind still intact? If not, could you direct some people at Corn here as well?

Re: Kansas 2011
Uh... it's kind of a long story.
Basically, I didn't study much for Protein Modeling, since I thought both of my team members knew what they were doing. Sure, I studied, but I was trying to focus on my other events. When I got to regionals that morning, though, they both said they didn't care and tossed our pre-build model to me, telling me to go impound it. All they had done to it was fold it rather clumsily, and I decided I'd try to fix it. Unfortunately, I only had two calculators, an i-Pod, a handful of pens and pencils, the amino acid parts that came with the kit we had, and some Play-Doh from my biology class.
...Yeah, I wound up sticking some amino acids on and using the pens and pencils for... something. I used the Play-Doh to keep them in place. The guy running the event thought it was funny, but I guess it was okay for a last-minute effort.
Not only that, but I was also the only member of my team who knew how to run jmol. I got it set up and tweaked it a bit so one of my partners could model the protein, and I did all of the test by myself. I only knew a few things about stem cells, and I knew about retroviruses from biology and Microbe Mission. My other partner actually said she wanted to play Solitaire while we worked, heh. She did accidentally hit a key on the keyboard that messed up jmol for a little bit, which is funny in hindsight but was rather frightening at the time.
Yeah, it's kind of a miracle we did so well. I'm definitely changing our model for state, though I'm the only one who cares about the event.
