For everyone looking to increase your voltages you need to increase your aerodynamic force, the best way to do this is by using an airfoil design. [wiki]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airfoil[/wiki] http://www.av8n.com/how/htm/airfoils.html Have fun and Good Luck. respond with questions. :)

That wiki link only goes to the scioly wiki. It doesn't go to Wikipedia. This link should work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airfoil

Probably best to cut out the inside of the CD and take two pieces of say 1x6x1/16'' Balsa wood and glue them on opposite sides of the CD center at a 15 degree angle going away from the fan.
-Hope this helps. ;)

If you have a drill press u can put a drill (end mills will work better if u have them) about 3mm in size and put a hole along the circle of the CD you want to cut out, then slide the but (while spinning) into the hole and apply pressure and guide the bit where you want to cut out. if you don't have this an exacto knife and a good 15 min will do.
good luck, write back with questions. i realize i may have been semi confusing lol

No problem. Most people don't come on here knowing everything. We figure out stuff as we go along. :)

The majority of this thread involves talk of the actual wind turbine design - is the test worth very little as far as the scoring goes? I suppose i can understand why there's little to talk about though, most of the concepts are straightforward...but i have to say OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) is very interesting. Despite the cost, it seems to me like the future of alternative energy. However there may be some negative drawbacks if we use it a LOT due to the temperature changes of the water messing with marine ecosystems.
