How do you think we should assign jobs? We tried to do it based on our weaknesses. Since my partners are younger I'm doing statistics and I think that part is alright. My other partner was working on graphs and he had trouble with it,and Ive tried helping him out but I haven't had enough time during the experiment since my partners rely on me a lot. Because it's my second year with this event and it's their first.

We did it based on what we were good at. After a few practices the assignments just sort of came naturally. Normally after reading the prompt we'd quickly figure out what experiment we wanted to do then two of us would work on the beginning part of the write up while the other started setting up the experiment. I would normally do the variable and procedure in the beginning and the graph and conclusion at the end. It shouldn't be a strict assignment, just figure out what your individual strengths are and focus on those. My 3rd year my partners were someone new to the team and someone who had done the event the year before in JV, but wasn't 100% sure on everything. Because of that there was a lot of them jumping around to the segments they knew and me filling in the rest.

Thanks. I've been having trouble with the statement of problem. It meets all the requirements except I'm not sure where to include the independent and dependent variables.

That's one of the things that becomes easier with practice in my opinion. Generally "How does [independent variable] affect [dependent variable]?" is a safe template (if that's where you are stuck).

It depends on what type of data you have.
Bar Graph = Comparison (The IV's have no correlation.)
Line Graph = Trend over time (The IV can be infinitely changed.)
Scatter Plot = Correlation of variables
There are some others, but these are most likely the only ones you'll need for the write up.

When I started I remembered them as DRY (Dependent, responding, y) MIX (Manipulated, independent, x). There is also the Standard of Comparison which is your control (Comparison, Control: both start with C).

Thanks. What are some tips on the analysis of results? When I went to an invitational not long ago we got a low score on that.

check your work, did you forget to do one? I also do statistics and often find that I sometimes forget one or two
