Yes, you pick 18 events to compete in out of the 25 they run.

All the regionals in my state (as far as I know, I could be wrong about 1 or 2) run all 23 events and a few trials (2-5 I believe). You are judged on all 23 events and the trials are used in the event of a tie in the overall score as a tiebreaker. The 7 senior/5 freshman rule applies, but the extras can be alternates and compete in the trial events. You can have as many alternates as you want, but only the numbered specified in the rules for the trial may compete in that trial.

in my state the regionals run however many events they want, usually around 15, and the normal rules apply

Really? You're going to shoot off bottle rockets indoors? I would LOVE to be at that competition!

In PA, you have to do all the events. If your team doesn't do an event, you get the score of the amount of theams there plus two or three, I'm not sure. So if there are 26 teams at an event, your score for that event would be 28 or 29. That is why all the good teams do every event, so they don't run this risk. What happens at nationals? Do you have to do all the events?

Of course. Well, you don't have to do anything, but if you don't compete, you I believe receive 3-4 points greater than the number of teams, so you can't compete for a high team ranking if you don't do everything.

So why can you not do an event in NY and get away with it, meanwhile when you get to nats, it's a whole different ballgame? :? :? :?
