But do you necessarily know when they follow the rotation? They seem to give events an extra year or so when they feel like it.

Fossils and Rocks & Minerals are on a consistent 3-year rotation; Dynamic Planet (because technically Rivers & Lakes, Glaciers, Oceanography, and Earthquakes & Volcanoes are really all the same event) changes topic every year (the same way Anatomy changes systems, but it changes what name people call it by, so it just seems like a different event). Other events- like WIDI, Science Word (I miss that event), and Picture This- are sort of just decided each year whether they should be kept or not. Tech events are the same way- it's pretty arbitrary, although for both the "inquiry" events and the tech events, there is a sort of inconsistent 3-year rotation- once an event comes into existence, it's usually around for 3 years before becoming something else (not always, though; I think WIDI has been around for 4 years in a row now, and Towers was only around for 2 years before being replaced by Elevated Bridge. Correct me if I'm wrong on those).

WIDI has been a B event since 1988, and has also been in C for all but two of those years. When it was up, the Event Rotation schedule (which I loved) had WIDI in every year for the whole cycle. In other words, it does not seem to rotate.
Bridge, tower and Boomi were supposed to go on a rotation, but since the schedule was scrapped, who knows? They now also have Elevated Bridge and have been making noises about something called I-beam, which would presumably rotate with the other balsa events.

Each Dynamic Planet topic is in for 2 years before it changes to the next topic.

Oh okay :-) I love WIDI, but unfortunately I can't do it this year because of conflicts (unless we make it to Nationals, in which case I might be able to- but Regionals and States, no dice).

Yeah, sorry, 2 years... I forgot that it was Oceanography 2 years ago as well as last year. So it will still be Earthquakes & Volcanoes next year, right?

Most likely, unless it's run so badly this year that they have to change it.
